Hello. I’m a new person considering applying next time and I had a couple of questions.

I was thinking of Shuurei from Saiunkoku Monogatari, which has 3 versions of canon: light novels, anime, and manga. I know the series mainly through the anime version but is it okay to also use bits from the novels and manga to supplement that? The novels include a few books which go beyond the anime’s end but aren’t licensed in English so my knowledge is limited to what summaries and fan translations I can find. The manga isn’t nearly as far along but includes a few side stories which weren’t in the anime. For example, Shuurei’s mother was an immortal with healing powers that sealed herself inside her sickly young daughter so that she would become healthy and live longer. This is implied in the anime but it’s not confirmed until the later light novels and there’s the additional info that the seal has been breaking, causing Shuurei’s life to run out quickly as a result.

And is it okay to bring her in from an earlier point than Ryuuren (the other Saiunkoku character who’s already in the game)? I was considering when she blacked out after the two of them and a couple of other characters went over a waterfall but Ryuuren went into the game from a somewhat later point.

We're fine with both! As long as the sources do not differ from each other significantly (for example, FMA anime 1 vs FMA manga), we're all right with using the sources to supplement each other.

As for the timeline, it is fine to take the character from wherever you like. You might want to ask your castmate, but the mods are good with this.

Oh, a couple more questions… Which is the right address for applications? I saw both soul.apps@gmail.com and soulcampaign@gmail.com mentioned on the application page.

And is there an expected format for posting? Like I noticed for first person posts, people usually seem to put thoughts and actions into brackets. Are there any other conventions like that I should follow for my samples? It’s been some years since I last did a RP and I’ve only been in more informal ones with friends. I’ve never done a more structured one like this through LJ.

soul.apps is where you send your application, and that is the address we will use to accept you. For everything else, like questions, suggestions, etc, soulcampaign is the right one!

The brackets are really all that everyone follows. All posts follow a video, voice, or text format, depending on what is IC for your character to do.
