How many characters can I app?

To begin with, you are allowed to apply one character, either a weapon or a meister.

After passing your first activity check, you are allowed one more character slot, then after your second activity check in succession (meaning that you pass two activity checks together, and not through hiatus, exemption from having a new character, or other special exemptions), your third and fourth character slots will become available to you.

Your maximum amount of characters is four and you are only allowed two Meisters and two Weapons. You can only have two of each so that we don’t get an overwhelming or uneven number of one or the other, leaving several characters without partners.

What happened to my abilities?

Thanks to the power of BREW, any supernatural abilities you may have possessed have now been stripped. This applies to magic, mutant powers, or otherwise unnatural abilities - they are no longer available to you.

This may not include all physical abilities, however. Any training, physical strength, or otherwise earned skills have not been affected. For more details on what abilities you can retain, please see here.

On the other hand, your powers have been replaced with new abilities. Upon arrival, you have been assigned the role of a Weapon or a Meister, and have received the skills needed to fill that position. This is more elaborately explained in the Meister and Weapon FAQ page.

What kind of abilities can my character keep in Soul Campaign?

• Your character can keep any powers that are within the capabilities of an Olympic athlete, or physical in nature. For instance, super strength would be powered down to the strength of an Olympic-level weightlifter, super speed would be powered down to the strength of an Olympic-level runner, and so forth.


• Characters with wings are able to use them to fly if it is anatomically feasible. Characters with little, cute wings would not be able to use them to lift their entire body, while characters with proportional wings would be able to use them for flight.


• Characters with non-human eyes (cat eyes, etc.) will still be able to use them to see in the dark in the same way that such animals can. In pitch darkness, they will be unable to see, but since their eyes are more receptive to small amounts of light, dimly lit places where humans would normally be blind will be visible for them. What kind of abilities will be lost in Soul Campaign?
A general rule of thumb is that an ability will be stripped by BREW if a mortal human (or animal) could not gain it through training. Examples include:

• Any powers based in magic. This includes any kind of bending (Avatar-style), magework, witchcraft, etc.


• Shapeshifting or physical alteration abilities. This includes things such as healing abilities, regeneration, growing additional appendages, changing forms, etc. Healing can still be slightly accelerated, but not supernaturally fast.


• Anything bestowed by a magical artifact or property in their body. This includes vampire abilities, blood-based abilities, and similar things.


• Any weapons, artifacts, or properties bestowed by said weapons or artifacts.

What happened to my weapons?

All weapons are removed from the character by the BREW upon arriving in Death City, no exceptions. Magical items like jewelry or commonplace items like skateboards or walking canes can be retained as long as all their magical properties and any weaponry installed in them are removed. If you're not sure about it being taken or not, you can ask a mod or include it in the NOTES part of the application.

What happens to dropped characters?

Dropped characters, unless plotted otherwise, are returned home. Their belongings in Death City, unless shared with a partner or another character, disappear.

A player can reapp their characters with the option of retaining their memories in Death City or starting fresh. A different player seeking to play a previously dropped character is not required to pick up the previous player's CR or memories.

I'd like to app someone from a game not released in America/a spoiler character. Am I allowed to do so?

As long as you are taking his information from the games themselves and not just headcanon, the mods will accept it. You are also allowed to apply for spoiler characters; however, we suggest you contact castmates just in case you're worried about spoiling the game for them and see what to do there. If you find yourself stuck, contact a mod and we'll do our best to help you out so you can apply and enjoy the game.

Is it possible to apply for a character in neither the role of a meister OR a weapon?

Everyone has to either be a meister or a weapon, no exceptions. The reason why BREW is bringing the characters to the world of Soul Campaign is to add to the meisters and weapons in Shibusen's ranks, and it will not bring anyone here who are neither.

I want to app a character with a separate personality, but it seems like these two personalities are two different people. So do I app them together or can I only app one?

Will I be notified about rejection through email or another form of contact?

We reply to every single application we receive, whether to accept, reject, or ask for clarifications and revisions. If you apply into the game and do not receive a notification a week after application cycle cut-off, please contact us.

However, please note that we do not appreciate it when applicants ask us about the status of their applications while we are still reviewing them. We receive a lot of applications per cycle and naturally take a while to reply to everyone -- please wait for the week to be up before approaching us.

I want to apply for someone with a sentinent weapon with no human form. Is this allowed?

All extra characters and weapons are left behind in their own worlds.

Players with similar circumstances have dealt with this loss in various ways. For example, Naruto's fox-spirit is gone, but his Meister Ability reflects the beastial nature that spirit gives him in canon.

If a character is taken post-death, will they still have whatever they died from? Assuming that it could kill them again if they did.

No, their infliction would disappear. BREW brings in people that can be of use so if they're dead, it wouldn't work very well! So that sort of infliction would be taken away upon arrival. It is possible to keep it dormant instead of removed, but there would be no symptoms to affect them.

My character doesn't have a soul! Can I still apply?

S/he would indeed have a soul. Souls in Soul Eater reflect a person's character, personality, and abilities and these are not based on the character's canon soul. Please read more in the Soul FAQ.

Can a character be taken post-canon?

Yes, you can! We'll accept it as long as the transition period is explained and is reasonable.

Can we edit our apps after we submit them?

Yes, as long as this is done before the application cycle cut off.

My character has a pet/mascot creature? Can he/she bring it along?

Unfortunately, no. BREW will only bring your soul along. If it is something like a robot or doll, please ask a mod first.

Can I canon update my character?

Yes. All you have to do is send an e-mail to the moderators, stating where your character will be taken. You do not need to send us a completely new app, but you must send us any part of your original app that will be affected by this canon update (a change in personality or a different soul description word for example!). Make sure to include [CHARACTER NAME HERE] [CANON HERE] [CANON UPDATE] in the e-mail title.

My character is blind, missing organs, or have debilitating illnesses. Can I still app?

Yes. It's up to you whether you want to keep their disabilities or disadvantages, but if you prefer for your character to not be so handicapped in the game, we have several ways of fixing that. For missing organs or the like, the easiest thing to do is give them new ones, which the BREW will supply in order to keep the character alive. For blind, deaf, mute characters, etc, there are certain meister abilities that can compensate for it. There are many different ways to make sure your character isn't too handicapped in the game, but if you're not exactly sure how, feel free to contact a mod or leave a question on the Questions and Concerns page. As a rule, anything too lethal or debilitating are fixed, or at the very least improved by the BREW, since its purpose of pulling people into Death City is to help with the war effort.

Do you accept characters from webcomics?

Yes, we do, as long as the webcomic has been established for more than a few issues and the characters have been defined well.

(Added April 16th, 2013) HOWEVER, We no longer accept Homestuck ancestor character applications. This might change in the future once Hussie gives out a little more background.

Can my character have more than one weapon form?

No, weapon characters may only have one weapon form. Meisters cannot have any weapon forms at all.

Can death be forced on a character?

Death cannot be forced on a player's character without player's consent so you do not have to worry about anything damaging happening to your character without permission. However, please bear in mind that Soul Campaign is a plot-heavy war setting, so in some cases, you may have to put your characters in dangerous situations. It's reasonable to expect that they may suffer from injuries once in a while.

What happens when characters die?

Death is permanent in the game. You can reapply for your character, but it will have to be a different or a reset version of the one that died. You can't resurrect them with their memories of the game intact. Other players may also reapp characters that have died in the game.

Just a question. What about characters who are say...vampires who aren't even human to begin with? Do they lose the natural powers they would be born with? Vision, Scent, Speed, etc...

As well as their nutritional needs for blood?

All of your character's vampire abilities -- immortality, strength, speed, stamina, any sort of magic, vision, scent, etc -- unless otherwise learned or trained for, will all have to go.

If the blood is a nutritional thing, then it can stay.

Chaltier is a sentient sword (used to be human tho) in canon. So I guess...BREW would have given him a human body again yes? I just need to double check before I work on some of my tags. ^^;;

Hey, the character I'm considering to app [Lust: FMA: Brotherhood] isn't human and has a Philosopher's Stone inside her made up of human souls. Would others be able to sense this, or would she just loose the Stone.

Also, can the original abilities be adapted to fit a weapon's power? E.g. the extendable nails to fit a bladed weapon and regenerative (but not to the point of immortality) abilities kind of like Krona's black blood?

Lust would have to become human once she is brought to Death City by BREW. She would no longer have her Philospher Stone. As for the original abilities being adapted as a power - Weapon abilities are always made up by the apper. They may be based upon the character's previous talents or be completely unrelated.

so, this Sohma family in Fruits Basket has this curse that was placed on them, that has them change into their respective Zodiac sign when they're hugged by the opposite gender. it's not, exactly magic in the sense that it's something they use (ie. jutsu from naruto), so would that be something that stayed? or would that be gone too? i mean, they're still human, and they still talk as their animals, they just... look like little beasties.

but if so, could that be incorporated into resonation somehow? or would we have to scrap those forms entirely?

The curse will be gone, since the BREW will take that away. However, you are free to suggest a meister/weapon/resonance ability to adapt it into the SC setting!

I was pondering apping one of the wolves from Wolf's Rain, and was wondering if they'd lose their ability to appear human in Death City. They are naturally wolves, and they don't actually change into humans, instead having a near constant illusion of human selves.

Sorry this is late but we got an answer! Their illusion will become real so they'll be human! However, you can still keep some of the physical aspects of the wolves such as their increased sense of smell.

I'm planning on apping Erika from Durarara!!, however I noticed that some questions on the application are hard in regards to her. She's a minor character that we don't know much about, so what do I do in regards to weaknesses and things like that?

We suggest looking into her possible weaknesses and reactions to being brought to Death City as a way of making the application more comprehensive. Are there moments in canon that can help you infer her other personality traits or help you build a reasonable headcanon for her?

You might also want to take a look at some example apps of other minor characters in the game. Both Shalnark and Sohki are minor characters with very little information. Perhaps you could gain ideas from their weakness sections?

So, I basically derped and read the directions wrong when it concerns when I submit the app. For this round, were we basically able to submit the app whenever we wanted until Feb. 17 or was there like, a week of just "THIS IS WHEN YOU SUBMIT" apps? can you app two characters from the same canon if they're not close canonmates? (ie. hardly or never talk to each other in canon).

You may! Of course, it will depend on the two characters in question, but we've allowed this before. As long as they are separate enough!

Say someone was to app this fellar here -- the Doctor. He's a Time Lord and all his abilities as they are are either genetic to Time Lords or learned. I'm a bit confused on what he would keep and what he would loose aside from his obvious ability to regenerate.

Also, would he still have his same biology?

All supernatural abilities are sealed for characters coming into the game, whether they are genetic or through other means such as magic. If you decide to make the Doctor a Weapon, however, you could incorporate up to 4 of his abilities into his Weapon abilities. Or, if you decide for him to be a Meister, you can look through the Meister ability list and pick out a suitable ability matching his canon powers, or suggest ones for his Meister ability.

In regards to his biology: the choice is yours. You can either maintain his original body (minus any supernatural elements e.g his telepathic abilities), or change his body into that of a human one. We ask that you include all abilities (supernatural or not) in the application. That way we can adjust the abilities according to the Soul Campaign Section of the application.

Two questions, since I'm considering comin around this way!

!) Are non-humans forced to look human? My potential app is... part bird I suppose you could say. Do they lose their wings/talons upon arrival, or does that get to stay?

@) What's the stipulation on apping a witch of another canon? Is that even allowed?

For the first question: we have many non-human characters in the game ranging from aliens, dragons, canines, and even a pony. Wings can be kept, but since the character in question will be placed in an environment that strips them of their abilities, then they would have to have the natural physical strength in their wings in order for them to reach any flight. There are a small handful of characters in the game with wings and the ability to fly, but we try to limit how much flying time they have. A possible way to consider this is that perhaps they can only maintain flight for a certain amount of time before tiring out.

As for the talons, we have no problems with a character arriving with them!

In regards to your second question: yes we do accept witches from other canons. The game has had a small number in the past that have been played by players.

Hey, I just wanted to ask a quick question about character limitations when playing from the same canon -- obviously characters with close canon relationships can't be played by the same mun, but, specifically, I currently play Manfred here from Ace Attorney and was considering playing Mia Fey in a game -- would I be allowed to play them both here, or would that be disallowed?

Heeyy, here's hoping someone sees this - if I'm intending to app a character with a deadly illness and want to keep him ill (or keep the symptoms, or something like that), would you prefer an email to the mod email, the request in my application or is a comment here sufficient enough to stand as a request?

Hanbei's TB is fairly significant to him as a character, so I just want to confirm before I finish up my application to submit.

So a question in regards to non-human characters was answered above, and it mentioned characters with wings not being able to fly with them. Now Davesprite actually loses a wing later and can still fly, so that comes from the natural abilities of a sprite.

Given that he probably won't have that natural ability either and the fact that sprites have no legs, would he just kind of have to awkwardly slither or would the loss of sprite abilities mean he'd have a human form?

Sorry this took a while!

We think it would be easier for the character if he just had a human form, if you're all right with that. We believe this to be the easiest choice, although we're not sure what that would mean for your character's development. Another suggestion is that he could have a meister ability that could help him with his movement limitations, like Soul Levitate -- although that would necessarily limit you to a meister.

Quick question! I'm thinking about apping a character who isn't exactly a main character. We get nearly zero info on his background from before the point he's introduced. Would headcanon for parts of his background be acceptable, or do you want me to stay away from headcanon?

Headcanon is fine as long as the headcanon is reasonable to the character and can be explained in the personality section. In general, we prefer if headcanon is limited to no more than half the the app, but if it can't be helped, we will consider it in an app provided that it's believable and justifiable.

Would she need to be downsized or humanized? Or both?

She would definitely need to be downsized to about human size or a little bigger. We have a couple of aliens that are about ten feet tall -- if the player likes, she can be about that size, though the two aliens don't keep rooms inside the residency units and instead live in an abandoned building. It has its many, many inconveniences!

As for the tail... it's up to the player if they want to retain her tail, though we wouldn't suggest it. Apart from movement issues that may limit her CR or the logs she can participate in, Death City is also in a desert and (while it is winter and snowing horribly right now), it will become very hot and dry later on.

We just updated the pages to reflect the new app dates. As of this month, we'll be having reviews twice a month, every month: on the 15th and last days.

Applications will be accepted at any time, but we'll assume that they are intended for the earliest available review cycle unless it's specifically noted (in case someone needs to submit an app three weeks early for whatever reason.)

Hi! Quick question with regards third/fourth character slots to make sure I'm understanding it correctly.

I get the second character slot = one month AC with first character, simple enough. But for the third slot, does that first month passing AC count for the two subsequent ACs or does it have to be two ACs where both characters pass? (I think I only got partial AC for Anri last month so I want to make sure of the situation before I start planning things - won't be until after the next AC anyway most likely but I want to be sure I know where I am so I'm not apping too soon)

New characters get a pass for their first activity check, but they do still need to post into the AC like everyone else.

The exemption does count toward the two ACs needed, and both characters will need to have passed.

Hi, I have a question about the pets rule! You see, I'm planning on apping Masako Natsume from Mawaru Penguindrum. I'm not sure if any of you have seen that anime, but the main characters all have their own penguin following them around - but it's not just an ordinary penguin, other people can't see it (unless they have a penguin like that themselves) and they seem linked to the characters' souls or at least their very being, considering they fade away if the character dies, they're hurt if the character is hurt, etc. Would it be okay in that case for it to be brought along in-game given that it's not just a normal pet or animal and other people can't see it either way? I'm okay if it still wouldn't work out, it's just so I know!

Hello! A question for a bit in the future (I'm not sure how far, I'm working on that part) concerning a re-app from a later timeline than he was from before.

I'd like to re-app Fon back into the game post canon after the curse put on him and the other Arcobaleno were released (upon being cursed, they were turned into infants and after the curse was released, they had to grow up again) However, I don't want him to be in the form of a two-year-old, so would it be possible to app in post canon with 15 years if I write out that properly.

And with that in mind, is it possible to reuse my old application with potential tweaks?

That should be fine! However, please make sure that if you intend to fill those 15 years of blank space that you're extrapolating from canon.

And as long as your application reflects the changes you're making, that will be fine.

Unfortunately, no, original characters are not accepted here. That information isn't on the FAQ but it is on the Rules page. Apologies for the confusion.
