With the Witches’ machine pumping out Diablo’s Terror Wavelength, it was a good thing there wasn’t much Morgan or Kyubey feared. Still, the outskirts of Lucerne were creepy. Literally. The area crawled with giant bugs and lizards plus the occasional kishin egg. And the Madness emanating from the black sphere that concealed the ruined city complicated things, making Morgan see double at times and swing the sword Kyubey created for her at imaginary foes, only cutting through air.

But the sword was sharp with all the souls Kyubey had absorbed so far, nearly half of his quota. And it sliced easily through lizard hides and mantis legs although they left no souls for Kyubey to absorb. The kishin eggs, monstrous creatures that looked like they might have crawled out of Lucerne’s lake or climbed down from the nearby Swiss Alps, were more difficult to handle. However, they too eventually fell to the blade, leaving glowing red souls that the alien creature eagerly devoured.
