After getting their bearings in Australia, L and Light proceed to get their mission underway, only to discover the toadstools are better-concealed than they'd anticipated. After an hour or so of their searching turning up nothing, they stop to discuss a change of tactic - which is when one of the toadstools in question decides to strike.
Unfortunately for the kishin, L's recent eye surgery has left him with a stranger's corneas which are not yet fully healed, making it, for the time being, impossible to drag his soul out through a strange, barred window. As the toadstool is swiftly dispatched, Light observes that L would be perfect for drawing them out as he is the epitome appearance of a 'sickly gazelle'. Despite his misgivings about being bait, L agrees that their courses of action would be limited otherwise as their targets have both camouflage and the lush terrain working to their advantage.
They proceed through the mission this way - with L intentionally acting out every horror movie trope to make himself a seemingly easy mark, with the two of them taking out whatever attacks in tandem.
