Lily and Lezard depart for Germany and enjoy the architecture and culture as they investigate the happenings. Most scoff and roll their eyes when asked of the Pied Piper. It was a story, wasn't it?
But the police have a different story. Children are going missing, and the only lead they have is the music playing through the night that the parents of the victims swear they'd heard. It was information they already had, much to the pair's dismay, so they decide to explore the town in earnest, killing time until the sun went down just an hour or two later. To lie in wait in the residential area was beneficial, they wager, wait for the piper to come out and try and take another child.
Lezard has an idea, but a risky one: Why defeat the piper there, when they could follow him and see where he takes the children? Lily agrees to it, worried about the past victims, and right on schedule the pied piper comes around, music in the air and skipping along. With three more children in tow, he moves along, unaware that the Meister and Weapon are hot on his trail.
Their tailing leads them to a hollow in the neighboring woods, where children are lost in trances and dancing to a music only they can hear. Despite speaking to them, shaking a shoulder, they would not wake, their bodies hollow. The piper only eats the choicest souls, while the rest wander Hameln as their most recent rat population explosion. Once a little girl's spirit is changed from human to rat, the pair have the evidence they need, and they do battle with the wicked piper. With flame traps and lances, the pied piper is eliminated, releasing the hold he had over the area. As Lezard acquires the soul as his prize, the children break out of their trances, confused and sleepy.
The children are returned to their parents through cooperation with the local police, and the rats that ran free are suddenly nowhere to be found, much to the relief of the remaining locals, unaware of the pests' true identities.
